My Nap / Mi Siesta

Hi! I’m Ms. Gaby and below you’ll find a quick guide to use while reading the fully bilingual board book My Nap / Mi siesta.

Before Reading:

  • Let’s look at the front cover, we see Coco Rocho, and his friends lying down with their eyes closed. What are they doing? What do you think this story might be about?
  • Let’s look at the back cover for some clues.
  • Do you know what a nap (una siesta) is?
  • This book was written by Raúl the Third, he is the author.

During Reading:

  • This book has short, simple text, so as we read, we can take our time, and concentrate on pronouncing and elaborating on the key words:
    • Nap – Siesta
    • Under – Debajo
    • Tree – Árbol
    • Friends – Amigos
    • On top – Arriba
    • Toy Box – Caja de juguetes
    • Hammock – Hamaca
    • Stuffed Animals – Peluches
    • Near – Cerca
    • Dog – Perro
    • Bed – Cama
    • Sweet – Dulce
    • Dreams – Sueños

After Reading:

  • Let’s talk about what we just read/listened to:
    • So, where did Coco Rocho end up taking his siesta?
    • Where is your favorite place to nap?
    • What was Coco Rocho dreaming about? What are some things you dream about? Yo sueño con…
    • What was one word in the story you already knew (in English and Spanish)?
    • What was one new word you learned in the story? (and how do you say it in the other language?)
    • Let’s look at the last page of the story for inspiration and make a drawing of the things we dream about!
